My Husband: Surprise Ruiner

Who's 6 foot 4, has a ginger beard and likes ruining fun surprises their wives thought really hard about?

This guy.

On the evening before Christmas Eve (the only time Josh and I could find time to open our gifts from each other), my husband found this in his stocking:

Now, most guys may have been excited and curious, and maybe even trying hard to figure out what the surprise was going to be and such.

My husband? Not so much.

He wanted to know right then. He couldn't stand the suspense and felt like "it wasn't really a present" since he wouldn't get it until January 26-27.

So, I caved. Because I wanted husband to be excited.

We are going to to the Food Truck Rodeo in Durham, NC (just an hour and a half from our town) and staying overnight the night before just to have a little get away.

I read about the "rodeo" from Life of Lu who went back in October, and I just knew that my husband would love a fun little outing like that.

47 food trucks with all kinds of food waiting for us to get our nom on? Heaven for Josh (and yes, me too).

But I am still giving him a clue each week dagonit because I already took the time to print them.

Silly boys.

The Nail Files (finally!)

I am SO excited that I was finally able to find time to paint my nails and actually keep them painted long enough to take pictures and post them to link up with Tara @ Fabulous but Evil and Vicki @ My Vickilicious Life for The Nail Files!

It has been WAY too long since I could do this.

I painted my nails all festive for Christmas this year with three different polishes, "Bold Gold" by Maybelline Color Show, Essie's "Bordeaux" and Sally Hansen's sparkly "Set the Stage".

I will say that the "Bold Gold" needs several top coats over it to not chip, but that Essie Bordeaux will last forever.

Christmas 2012

As I've said before, having a large family on both sides makes for quite the hectic day on Christmas, but we know how extraordinarily blessed we are to have so many family members and friends to celebrate with.

Sawyer made Christmas so much more exciting this year since he understood more what it really is. He got three big ticket items this year, a grill, kitchen set and tool bench and he has been working and cooking away since Christmas morning!

Here a few pictures from our Christmas 2012 adventures...

drilling up a storm!
When I asked Sawyer to open his other presents he kept saying "No Mommy, I working". Silly boy.

After our house we ventured to Josh's parents' house...

Joshua opening his gifts

Then after their house we went to my parents' house...

cooking up something on his new kitchen set.

Then after my parents' house we went to my Mema's house! We were all so happy that Mema was able to come home for good from the assisted living rehab center.

all the grandchildren, one great-grand kid and grandchildren-in-law with Mema
this is my favorite, Sawyer got a hold of Deanna's hair mid picture, gotta love it.

and just because it is too precious, how adorable is my cousin Donald's new hound puppy, Sadie?!

After my mema's we headed to Josh's grandparents' house for supper and to open more gifts!

What a wonderful season, I hope ya'll's Christmas was absolutely amazing too and that you all have a happy new year!

A savior is born

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,  "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
Luke 2:9-14

Merry Christmas to you and yours, praise God for the greatest gift of all.

Merry Christmas!

This was supposed to be our Christmas card....

.....but we got crazy busy and I didn't print them or send them out in time... so instead we will be sending out Happy New Year cards.

And yes, we are actually going with the original pictures that we took even though I hated them at first.

Anyway, I am happy to wish each and everyone of you the merriest of Christmases, may your day be spent with family and friends and surrounded with wonderful memories.

Tailgate Christmas Party

We hosted a Christmas party for all our tailgate friends last Saturday and I think it was quite the success.
our invitation
There was food a plenty, laughs galore and copious amounts of flipcup (aka the recipe for any good party).

I did have on boots at the beginning of the evening, but between walking around too much and not wanting to be a good foot taller than everyone in pictures, they were quickly replaced by flats

I got the great (and free) "Elf" quote printable from Inviting Printables, and just changed the coloring.

The food for the evening was:
Throw-Up Dip (yes it's really called that - just sausage, Rotelle & cream cheese)
Cake & Fruit Kabobs (see here)
Puppy Chow (timeless classic)
Chocolate Fondue with Pirouette Straws, cake & Strawberries to dip
Banana Nutella Bites (which I found via Ashley @ Life is Beautiful)
Rollo Pecan Pretzels

Sawyer threw a giant fit in the kitchen at some point...

And we finally got a picture of the entire tailgate crowd (minus our friends Melvin & Charlie who couldn't make it).

Saw it, Pinned it, Did it #5

I'm linking up with Katie @ Keep Calm & Carry On and Steph @ Beautiful Mess for another "Saw it, Pinned it, Did it"!

And for once my post is not about a DIY project for my house :)

I saw these delicious kabobs over at "My Own Road" and knew immediately I had to make them for our Tailgate Christmas Party (post on that to come tomorrow). I mean, they combine my three favorite things, sweet fruits, angel food cake and chocolate. Not to mention that everything usually tastes better on a stick (true story).

I also changed it up a little by adding some blueberries...

Ingredients:

Strawberries
Blueberries
Angel food cake
Kabob sticks
Chocolate syrup (optional)

1) Prep your strawberries and angel food cake by cutting the cake into hunks and de-stemming the berries.

2) Slide your kabob stick (or lollipop stick if your Walmart is stupid like mine and doesn't have kabob sticks!) through your fruit and cake in a pretty pattern.

The next step should be "drizzle with chocolate syrup", but since I was already serving a chocolate fondue at this particular party, I decided to leave off the chocolate.

3) Serve and enjoy!

update on Sawyer and Christmas decor

Just a little update from yesterday about Sawyer: We came home from the hospital last night around 4:30ish and he is doing pretty good. Our stipulation for coming home was that he must drink at least 1.5 ounces every hour, so we're trying our best to keep him hydrated. They did discover that he also has C.Difficile, a bacterial infection sometimes caused when you've take an antibiotic to treat an infection and the drug destroy ssome of the normal, helpful bacteria as well as the bacteria causing the illness. So, that is probably where all the yucky tummy stuff was coming from. He was sent home with a strong antibiotic he has to take very six hours (yes, even during the night). So please keep praying that he will bounce back!

laying in bed watching videos on the iPad
because of the C.Dif, anyone who came in had to robe up and put on gloves, so we got a big yellow sign on our hospital door, good times.
laying with daddy and several stuffed animals
On a happier note, here are some of our Christmas decorations we've got going on in the Edmondson house.

(expect a Saw it, Pinned it, Did it post on this mantle decorating scheme)
