from the hospital bed of Sawyer Edmondson

It is 12:35am Monday morning and I am laying in a hospital bed with my son. My 22-month-old son. Who has had horrible diarrhea for the past two weeks. We returned to the emergency room today, yes the same one we visited last Sunday, for another round of fluids to fix my poor little dehydrated baby.  This "little viral thing" that was from Sawyer losing all his "good bacteria" was actually a thing called intussusception, which in regular people language means my big guy's little intesting had "telescoped" down into his larger intestine. Hence the stomach pain, crazy diapers and sick baby.

So, after hanging out in the emergency room for around 5 hours, getting fluid, collecting some samples from diapers, getting some x-rays and watching countless YouTube "Old McDonald" videos, we discovered that Sawyer needed a procedure that is kind of like an enema with air. They forced air up his little hiney and pushed his intestine back where it is supposed to be.

So, be praying that the Sawbug stays okay, we'll be here for at least one more whole day for observation then hopefully on our way back home.

Saw it, Pinned in, Did it #4

Finally, I can link up again with Katie @ Keep Calm & Carry On & Steph @ BEAUtiful Mess for Saw it, Pinned it, Did it! And it's kind of a two-fer today!

I saw this great idea on how to display Christmas cards at Greener Grass.

Doesn't it look so much better than the whole “let me see how many of these things I can get on my fridge with only 15 magnets” thing?

So, I decided to duplicate it on my china cabinet doors.
TA-DA

It was super crazy simple – here’s what you need:
Ribbon
Packing Tape (unless you can tie yours behind the cabinet door)
Scissors
Clothes Pins
Christmas Cards

1)      Cut ribbon and tape it to the back side of your cabinet door (at Greener Grass, she tied her ribbon, but since my door was glass, I could not).

2)      Then, using clothespins attach your Christmas cards to the ribbon

3)      BAM enjoy the Christmas cards of all you friends and family

 See? Crazy, stupid easy.

On a related, Pinterest note, I also finally hung the shelf that I blogged about wanting back in JULY. I copied got the inspiration for it from this post right here that I found on Pinterest:

My Version:

I can't take the credit for actually building the shelf since my papa did it for me. But I did add the personal touches and I think it really pulls the room together since we don't have a headboard.

here are more detailed shots of the shelf:
lanterns from ZGallerie, little sign from Hobby Lobby and frame from Wal-Mart (and spray painted)
monogram print from For Chic Sake, big frame, little bird & blue pot from Hobby Lobby
candle holders from ZGallerie, succulent plant from Target and  NC print from The Vintage Lemon
And now the bedroom is ALMOST complete – so I can finally show you some pictures of the master bedroom… yes I was totally waiting for the shelf to post any of these pictures… I admit it.

this will one day have a picture over it with a sofa cushion to match the bed... and that medicine cabinet WILL be hung in the bathroom soon... i hope.
our bathroom vanity (which sits in the bedroom between our closet and shower/toilet area)
the shower/toilet room, we DID have a pretty turquoise bath mat... but the stomach flu and it had a fight... the flu one.

So, go link up! Pin something, then bake it/make it happen :)

farm animals & emergency room visits

First off, hi there, long time no post.

Now, on to a story about last weekend, it was a doozy.

You see, Sawyer has had a little tummy issue for the past week and a half,  and it kind of came and went and came again. We kept hoping it would go away and he would start eating regular food without it… you know… making a reappearance (at either end, sorry I know that is more than a little gross)

So, Saturday we decided to take him to his friend (and our best friend Chris Mitchell’s niece) Rorie’s farm-animal-themed birthday party in hopes that all the fun would make him feel better.  And it did for awhile, he rode the pony...

saw a Zebra (how funny does Rorie’s dad look holding a leash with a Zebra on the end of it?)...

some alpacas….

a freaking teacup pig…

and hung out with a dwarf horse....

…then his stomach got even worse. We changed his diaper 12 times between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. and he threw up twice. Josh and I talked to my dad and decided it was time to take him to the emergency room.

Now. You need to understand that I am not the mom that thinks every sniffle deserves a doctor’s visit. But, because he had been not eating, miserable and lethargic for so long we knew we needed to take him in to the doctor and that there was no way we could do it on Monday, so we drove to the pediatric emergency room Sunday morning.

Poor little guy was dehydrated so they immediately got him some IV fluids running (which was just no fun at all, seeing him with a needle stuck in his little arm).

playing with his stickers after getting his IV.

They ran some tests and decided that because the Big Guy had been on an antibiotic for his upper respiratory then immediately had a stomach virus that he had killed all the good bacteria in his belly and we needed to replenish it. So, thankfully all we have to do now is make him eat lots of live, active yogurt and take some probiotics.

laying with daddy, getting fluids and watching cartoons on Papa's iPad

popsicles are his new favorite.

Needless to say, we were extraordinarily tired on Monday and BOTH of us had big meetings (although I will say mine was much worse considering I had to present all the Gold Key awards and also deliver the annual report to the Board of Education… sorry husband, I win).

Any way, now that work is going to slow down just a little I am can hopefully be getting home at a decent hour and get some blogging done! So, watch out folks, I’m back.
