Five on Friday

I'm linking up with Carolina Charm for Five on Friday!

ONE I am so excited because "Sawyer Weekend" is officially here! I have an American Cancer Society training thing early tomorrow morning but as soon as that is done, we are hitting the road around 11am to start the festivities. It's so funny too because we have been struggling with where we want to eat dinner Saturday night. We wanted a "kid-friendly" place but weren't really sure where to go when all of a sudden Sawyer mentions "when are we going back to that place where the magicians cook on the table?!" we had zero idea what he was talking about until we realized he meant a Japanese steakhouse (I guess their chef hats look like magician hats?) so it looks like we will be enjoying Kanki in Raleigh Saturday night! We are chomping at the bit to tell Sawyer about the big weekend, but are patiently waiting until tomorrow morning.

so much excitement ahead!
TWO As I mentioned before, October is a super busy month at work but thankfully one big event is over and one more will be done Monday night! I hate to wish away an entire month but these cankles and my giant swollen legs are totally over having to support this belly of mine at so many events and meetings! Only two symposiums, one graduate fair, and one career fair to go!

THREE This past weekend, our homecoming weekend at ECU, I was watching the homecoming parade with my friends Hope & LP and we took a selfie. Well, a university photographer captured the moment and it made it in the homecoming slideshow on our website. #wefamous

FOUR Speaking of football games, we don't have another home game until Thursday, Oct. 23 (a night game) and I do believe that will be the last one I am able to go to. I sadly had to go down at halftime during our homecoming game because the sun was BRUTAL and I was so tired and hot I could barely function. I hate to miss watching my Pirates play (and tailgating with my crew), especially since I will most definitely be missing our Nov. 22 home game, but little future Pirate is more important than my current Pirates (who are playing so awesome right now!).

FIVE Anyone else a huge American Horror Story fan? The fourth season started Wednesday night with this year centering around a traveling "freak show" and it did not disappoint. However, I am absolutely terrified of freaky clowns so the show's villain "Twisty" the clown has been haunting my nightmares already.

soccer stud

Josh and I both played soccer in high school. Josh was a goalie and I was a mid-fielder and we both loved it. While Josh enjoyed it because his team won and he liked the sport in general, I adored it because not only did I love the sport but I also loved my amazing back of the bus crew.

So, when Sawyer got old enough to play on the town's rec soccer league, we were so excited to sign him up. Then Josh got roped into also coaching a team in the league... the team of brand new players ages 2-3 (which includes Sawyer).

Needless to say, their love for soccer, or sports in general, has not really developed yet.

I knew it was going to be an interesting season when Josh came home from practice one night and said he tried to run drills with these children but all they wanted to do was hang around their parents and sit on the ball or pick flowers. I kindly reminded him that they are indeed super young and that drills were probably out of the question. The best he can do is just teach them how to run and not fall and how to not touch the soccer ball with their hands. After all, the goals don't even have goalies in them during the games.

Josh also said he had to yell "PUT DOWN THE DANDELION" at a child during practice. Awesome.

Sawyer had his first soccer game Tuesday night, which I sadly had to miss because of a Relay community meeting, but my dad got a many a picture and I heard from my whole family how unsuccessful the game was.

Sawyer not only didn't want to leave Josh's side, he also didn't want to play at all. He sat in the goal, he pouted on the side line, he wouldn't let go of his grandparent's. Twas lovely.

if soccer doesn't work, he could seriously make a career out of his awesome pout

over it.

Bless my child. We're hoping his attention span will improve with age and he'll eventually love competitive sports as much as me and Josh.

Busy October

October used to be my favorite month. Fall is starting, football season is in full swing, leaves are changing, and the boots and scarves are making their way out of the closet....  but this year October isn't going to be so great.

Nothing bad has happened in the two days that it's been October but man is there a lot ahead.

Between four different events taking place in my College, a few big meetings and career fairs and having to say goodbye to our amazing Dean that's retiring Oct. 31, work is going to be a crazy place.

On top of that, Relay for Life is in full swing even though the event won't take place until May 1-2, 2015. We have a lot of pre-planning to do and (if I'm honest) a lot of changes that have come down from the American Cancer Society are really affecting our event. I am seriously displeased with some of the event layout changes, modifications to our committee structure, and how the event will now be handled. When I first agreed to be a co-chair for Relay, I was working at the brewery where I left every day at 3pm and didn't have to even think about work when I left, but now with my more-involved and busier position at ECU, Relay is going to be a lot more difficult (especially considering that I will be having a baby some time around the kick-off for 2015). Thankfully I have an amazing side-kick, my friend Caroline, for Relay and I am still thankful to be part of such a great cause... even if the corporate side is taking some of the fun out of it.

I am also not happy with NC weather right now. It is hot. Granted, it is still the very beginning of October, but dag on it I want to wear comfy dresses with maternity tights and boots, scarves and big sweaters over skinny jeans/leggings not still be wearing my spring-y maternity stuff!! Get with the program weather, I want it in the high 60s, low 70s!!

On the plus side,  October also has a lot of happiness. We have homecoming at ECU this weekend, "Sawyer Weekend" next weekend, and then the very next weekend I am going to see "Gone Girl" with my friends Hope & Kate. Not to mention Halloween and possibly this baby being born around the end of the month.

So, you may be only getting a sporadic post from me this month, but I promise not to completely drop off the blog train!
