Christmas Questions

I saw this quiz on several blogger's posts yesterday (including Rebekah @ Life with the Edwards & Katie @ Keep Calm & Carry On) and it looked fun, so here we go :)

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate?  Oh, of course hot chocolate. I am not about the nasty shizz that is eggnog. bleh.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?  we had both. a few things wrapped and a few that sat in our designated spots (the chair furthest from the door was mine and the closet to the door was Dee's)

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?  white. I'm kind of a snob when it comes to Christmas lights.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?  never have, we don't have a tree near us or anything. besides we don't need a plant to tell us when to make out ;)

5.  When do you put decorations up?  the day after Thanksgiving usually.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?  I love breakfast casserole. i realize you can eat it any time but I just associate it with Christmas morning

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?  My favorite holiday memory is when we all used to cram in my Mammy's house on Christmas morning for a feast. There were so many of us in the little house (that now belongs to Josh and me) but it just felt right.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?  To what truth are you referring? Homey still visits me.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?  Yes, we used to always open two presents, one was pajamas every year (so we would be styling and matching in the next morning's video and pics). Now, me and Josh usually exchange gifts on Christmas Eve since we don't time on Christmas morning.

10.  How do you decorate your tree?  White lights (obvi) and all kinds of ornaments.

11. Snow!  Love it or dread it?  hate. I have been in TWO wrecks in the snow. If I can go somewhere and just stay at home I am all about it but if I have to be out and about? forget it.

12. Can you ice skate?  I've only been like twice, so no, not really.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?  I got Barbie's Dream House one year and played with that thing FOREVER. It was boss.

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you?  All the time I get to spend with my family.

15.What is your favorite holiday dessert?  Mema Dean's homemade chocolate pudding with whipped cream. delish.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?  the Wallace gathering at Josh's Aunt Becky's it is hilarious and that family is crazy.

17. What tops your tree?  A glittery, silver star that I got at my Christmas bridal shower.

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?  I like both, but I love picking out gifts for people.

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum?  Yum. Especially the flavored ones like the Spree or Starburst kind.

20. Favorite Christmas show?  I love Bing Crosby's White Christmas but Christmas Vacation is also wonderful.

21. Saddest Christmas song?  Christmas Shoes.

22. What's your favorite Christmas song?  Welcome to Our World, Breath of Heaven & Mary, Did You Know are my absolute faves.

Christmas Craziness

Christmas at the Harrell/Edmondson household is a little crazy. We have a ton of places to go with very little time at each location. I am not a fan. But, what do you do?

here is a rundown of our usual schedule:
Christmas Eve:
6 p.m. Service at Josh's mama & daddy's church (T.Hall United Methodist)

6:30 p.m. Dinner and drinks at Josh's Aunt Becky's which includes all of Josh's grandma's sisters and brothers (total of 9) with their kids and grand-kids. We exchange Secret Santa gifts (names drawn at Thanksgiving)
me, obviously telling Aunt Denise what I think about something at Aunt Becky's (Christmas '09)
9 p.m. My parent's house to open two gifts a piece
(mama & daddy's last December)

10 p.m. (ish) Back to our house to open our gifts to one another (since we know we won't have time Christmas day)
our house

Christmas Day:
6 a.m. wake up. seriously.

7 a.m. arrive at breakfast location (alternates each year) to eat breakfast & open gifts
Option 1: My parents' with Deanna, Mema, Papa and us
Option 2: Josh's parents' with the whole Edmondson clan (Uncle Jack & Uncle Steve's families)

11:00 a.m. go to Mema Dean's for brunch and open gifts with my mama's side of the family followed by the annual mandatory family picture

last year's very pregnant Christmas pic.

1:00 p.m. go to Temperance Hall and open gifts with Josh's grandma and granddaddy

3:00 p.m. nap.

5:00 p.m. leave for Snow Hill for the Murphy (mema dean's family) Christmas

This year though? This schedule won't be followed. Not only do we have a 10 month old to add to the mix, but also Christmas is on a Sunday so we have service at 10 a.m. in Macclesfield. Even though it is Josh's parents' turn to have us for breakfast, there is no way we'd have time to go to Rocky Mount and back in time for church. So who knows what we'll do.

However, this is a good problem to have in my opinion. I would much rather have too much family to visit than not enough.

So, in case I don't get a chance to tell you later.. I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful Christmas full of all things merry & bright!

ringy ding ding

After the hustle and bustle of Christmas (expect a post on that busy schedule tomorrow), Joshua & I will be leaving Dec. 30 to celebrate New Years together in Asheville (NC) at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa.

Instead of buying each other big Christmas gifts and such, we decided to just do stocking stuffers that cost less than $50 all together and go to the resort for three nights and four days where we will enjoy New Years.

Thanks to their great New Years Eve package, the mister and I will enjoy the below awesomeness:

  • Two nights of Property View accommodations (we added a night)
  • New Year's Dinner in one of our fine dining outlets. Choose from Blue Ridge Dining Room's Prime Rib Buffet or enjoy a four-course dinner at Sunset Terrace or Horizons Dining Room (we chose the Sunset Terrace)
  •  New Year's entertainment & dance with modern and party music from Big Blast and the Party Masters in the Grand Ballroom with cash bar & champagne toast at midnight
There was another party option called "Classic New Years",  but it involved classical music and black tie (two things that Josh Edmondson would not enjoy and therefore I would be miserable).

We also splurged and purchased a spa pass for Sunday, we figured we'd need some recover time after partying away at the bash the night before.

Oh, and remember this post where I whined about not being able to find a dress for this occasion? Well I finally chose one from Delias of all places. The Wendy is supposed to be purchasing it for me for Christmas.

Warning: Creeper don't be getting any ideas about robbing our casa while we're away since you now know when to strike. We have neighbors. Nosy ones (the good kind of nosy). And? We don't have anything of value.

and once again, no I was not compensated for this post by Grove Park.

i'm back (sorta)

Hey ya'll!

Sorry for the prolonged absence but life has been ridiculous lately. Things at work are finally starting to slow down, Sawyer is crawling up a storm, but starting to listen better when we say "no", I am almost done Christmas shopping and the choir performed our Christmas Cantata Sunday so things should hopefully be getting back to normal soon.

You may have noticed my lack of status updates, tweets and pins - it's because I have lost all contact with the outside world because of one piece of technology failing. My BlackBerry is broken. And it has been since Thanksgiving (thanks to my little Sawbug who chewed it so hard he gave it water damage and created a short between the keyboard and the screen).  Thankfully, I have my work cell phone for things like phone calls and quick texts, but I miss my precious BlackBerry and BBM with every fiber of my being. It's crazy.

So why not just get another one?

Because our insurance deductible is $100 and I just can't see myself paying that. Luckily, we have a lot of belief points, which you earn from US Cellular for things like taking surveys, years of service and referring others to the company. Thanks to those belief points we will be up for an upgrade in January, so I am just waiting until then to get a new phone. We've also used the points to get car chargers for our phones, it's awesome. (and no, US Cellular did not make me do this post nor are they paying me)

Meanwhile, I have no idea who has had a baby, whose gotten engaged, who is mad at who on Facebook, if any celebrities have posted funny tweets or pics on Twitter (and by celebrities I obviously mean Pink Lou Lou, Tara, Katie & Mrs. Monologues) or if someone has created a new crafty DIY on Pinterest.

So, I apologize for my disappearing act and I promise to be a better blogger. Meanwhile, I have got some comments to leave and some emails to return. Happy Tuesday everybody!

Foot foods are better than finger foods...

Yesterday I made brownies to take to the kids Christmas play at church. I put them in the foot of the car in the backseat of the jeep then sat in the middle seat so I could play with Sawyer in his car seat during the ride. When I stepped out of the cat at church... I stepped n the brownies. Story of my life.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Miss me? Promise to return soon with posts about Christmas decor, my ridiculous stress amounts caused by a huge mistake at the Gold Key Awards ceremony, and how my little family is gong to handle balancing all our Christmas functions.

Nail Polish Swap Results

I linked up with Tara @ Fabulous but Evil and Celia @ Just Trying to Find My Way for their Nail Polish Swap in November and met the lovely Ray J over at Point Me to the Sky Above.
that's Ray and her precious little family.
We are both geeky moms who have 9 month old baby boys, in fact Baby Jay is only 6 days older than Sawyer. By the way, check out her little man's Ewok costume from Halloween, I was incredibly jealous.

I got Ray's package on Wednesday, 11/23 and it was a great Thanksgiving treat...

her sweet note
not one, not two, but SEVEN nail polishes
I loved the dark red and dark purple (go Pirates) polish and who wouldn't adore a gift pack of polishes from the ever-so-wonderful e.l.f.! The pack included glittery gold, black (more of a gun metal gray), red and magenta and a solid mauve. I am currently rocking the glittery black - check it out..

Note how swollen my hands are? My ring finger is all sausaged around my wedding bands and such. Stupid blood pressure.

Thanks Ray, loved the polish and it was great getting to know you a little better!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

hair pulling, blood pressure raising busy

work is crazy to say the least.
it's December now which means I need to work on...

  • getting the district's holiday cards sent to the other school systems

  • create certificates and programs, order programs and prepare my speech for Gold Key Awards

  • wrap up our United Way campaign and collect and count the money from my 15 sub-coordinators

  • meet one more time with my Accreditation Standard 6 Committee so we can go over our survey results and answers to the focus questions to be submitted to the big Accreditation team
  • order another banner for Edgecombe Early College High School since I messed up the first one (who knew there was a difference between "Honor School of Excellence" just plain ole "School of Excellence?)
  • start the calendar planning process for next school year
  • set my department budget for the 2012-2012 fiscal year

I do NOT make enough money to have this much on my plate. Meanwhile my BP is climbing higher and higher, thanks for your well wishes yesterday, I have an appointment with the endocrinologist Monday to see if something is wrong with my thyroid.

and if someone comments "be happy you have a job" I will die.
